So Much to Gain in Letting Go

For months God has been preparing my heart for our move. Nearly every time I get into Scripture God speaks to me about letting go of our home and releasing it to Him. Lately anytime I hear Matthew 6:19-21 "Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also," tears well up in my eyes.

I have spent years filling the walls of our home with paintings and yearly family photos. Filling shelves with quirky nic-nacs that are just our style. Plastering our fridge with handmade art work and love notes from friends. Purchasing linens, blankets and pillows to make our furniture feel cozy. When we bought this little green house there were only 3 of us. Seven years later, we've squished 3 more blessings into these bedrooms. We've rejoiced in our front yard over anticipated phone calls from our attorneys telling us "you have a court date in Uganda," and "the birth family chose you!" We've had tea parties, built igloos and blanket forts. We've failed here. We've fought here. We've asked for and received forgiveness here. We've all grown up here.

As painful as it is going to be to leave our home, the city I've lived in all my life and the family I love so much,  I don't want my life any other way. God is worth it. He has forgiven us, redeemed us, brought us out of the pit, sanctified us and grafted us together. He has done great things and now it is time to go. He's prepared, equipped and called each of us. He has a great work for us to be apart of among His people in Uganda. And they are worth it. People are worth it. He is worth it. That gives me hope. That brings me joy. So as I release this house to Him, I choose to focus on that.

  1. Jade, you are a beautiful writer. Your expressions, in person and on paper, of what God has done and is doing in your life are always so beautiful to hear and inspire many. I keep thinking of the prayer prayed for you last night "May she feel at home in your Presence, Lord." That is a prayer that I will keep praying for you. Praying that God would keep giving you glimpses and full-on views of the good as you face some of the hard of letting go. Love you!
